It's fiscal year end at work so I'm home later than usual, which means Jason has been putting Aubrey to bed (if mommy is home, it's mommy she wants), and which usually means that she stays there through the night better than other nights.  Last night was an exception to this rule, however, and Aubrey came padding into our room at 4:15am.  Usually when she wakes up in the middle of the night, she wants to rock in the rocking chair or have me hold her for a few minutes and then tuck her in.  This morning, however, was different: she wanted to lay down in "daddy's bed" (apparently, it's not mommy's bed - the same is usually said for the house, little bugger).  Daddy was already taking up more than half of the bed so this meant Aubrey took the next quarter, and mommy took the last quarter, if it can be called that - my bum may have been hanging over the mattress for all I know.  To her credit, Aubrey lay down and was relatively calm, just twirling her hair and being quiet for awhile.  After a few minutes, though, she began squirming.  Nothing too crazy, nothing that would disturb daddy's sleep, but just a steady kind of kick, kick, kick, with her footed pajamas.  Right into mommy's pregnant belly.  First this was mostly irritating because it was completly preventing me from going back to sleep (not like that was really going to happen anyhow), but after a few minutes, the baby started squirming and kicking like crazy in my tummy.  He was totally kicking her back!  This went on for a good 20 minutes, with both my current and future child squirming and essentially kicking one another, without even realizing it.  The person who DID realize it was ME, but by that point I had given up on falling back asleep and decided to just enjoy the 'moment' for what it was.

Daddy is excited to mountain bike (wearing a headlamp so as to bike the first night we're there has been discussed). 

Aubrey is excited about her new clothes! 

(In fairness, she doesn't really "get" that we are driving to Oregon tomorrow for the week so the clothes are all she really knows to be excited about thus far. I'm sure she'll have a blast pointing out trees, birds, dirt, water, etc.). They may not get a ton of use on this trip since there is supposed to be record breaking high temperatures, but they will come in handy for camping season, which is upon us! (Yes, we camp Sept through Oct/Nov) Aubrey was actually interested in trying on everything including her new hat, despite the 85 degree weather. She sure looks cute in REI gear!

Looking forward to our trip to Bend and hope to have lots of pictures to share. 

baked blueberry oatmeal

I had a huge basket of blueberries that we didn't quite get through last week so I decided to use the last of them to make baked oatmeal, which I'm hoping will be a tasty and quick breakfast I can depend on for future busy weeks. When I workout in the morning before work, I have a hard time (1) eating much of anything before an early morning workout; and (2) have a hard time making breakfast after I work out without feeling like I'm going to be too late to the office if I do. Maybe this will solve both problems?!

Another idea I had to solve at least problem #2 was making pre-made breakfast  sandwiches. The other day I bought a whole bunch of supplies to make egg, bacon and cheese breakfast sandwiches on English muffins, but I was too tired to make a huge batch and freeze them so I ended up making them each morning from scratch. Delicious, yes, but not the time saver I was looking for! I'll have to try that again soon.

I hope this tastes as good tomorrow morning as it looks and smells tonight! I'll have to whisk the egg better next time, too -- it was with the cold milk and honey in the recipe so I couldn't get a good whisk going.

I am being COMPLETELY outdone by my friends with kids on this whole blog thing!  I have photos on my camera from 2012 holidays that were never uploaded because my computer went kaput last year.  I think it's time to bogart daddy's laptop and use it for more than watching youtube videos about gaming (COD for those asking), streaming Homeland on iTunes, or online dating (it's been awhile since it was used for that, don't worry).  I have countless videos and photos that I want to share with everyone, but don't because my computer is out of commission.  I really want to get more stuff on here to document the cute stuff that Aubrey does since she's growing and changing so much so quickly.  Commiting: NOW.

I could go on, but the words are coming way too fast these days for me to keep up. 

Mommy, daddy, grandma, and nonna are easy for her -- grandpa is "umpa" and auntie is "tee." Uncle is too complex for her. She says ball, hat, jeep, bubbles, bath, night night, milk, books, puppy, yellow, and baby all perfectly! She's also mommy's child, and can say "cupcake."

More words are developing every day--it's astounding how quickly she's learning and scary how much she's parroting (we'd better be careful!).
