. . . and we've made it past the newborn stage! Aubrey is now three months old and much more a "baby" than a newborn. Although she was a cute little larva when she was born, we are more excited every day to see her growing and changing. She coos, giggles, and smiles. She either can recognize my camera phone, and/or likes the colors and pattern on its cover, because she smiles and laughs when I try to take her picture. She has a great little coo that sounds like a baby goat - it's too funny. She is so excited to see us when she wakes up in the morning that it makes the early morning wake up time more manageable (5/5:30). Aubrey loves morning playtime, when she sits in her crib and watches her birdie mobile go round and round and round. By late afternoon, Aubrey will oftentimes be a touch cranky, which of course is just in time for when daddy gets home from work (he loves this). This late afternoon crankiness is getting a little better, though, as she's developing a habit of taking a 2 hour nap in the afternoon. We'll see if this sticks or not - I am headed back to work just as Aubrey enters her fourth month, which is when the whole "sleep training" thing can start to kick in (as well as teething, and other things that can totally throw off what has so far been a great sleeping pattern at night) so we'll see how the daytime naps go from now on . . .
During her third month, Aubrey went out to lunch with Auntie Tera and mommy; started riding in the moby wrap in a way where she gets to hold her head up and look around; wants to sit up a little more, and lie flat less; enjoys her swing and the butterfly lights that go around and around in it; also enjoys her bouncer chair, which is great for when mommy is trying to get ready; is way more alert, and starting to notice when new people enter the room, or trying to look at Mikey the cat if he's nearby; can hold on to things, including a rattle and the rings of the toys that dangle from her playyard (even if she has a hard time letting go with that death grip!). Aubrey sat in a bumbo chair for the first time toward the end of her third month, and really likes it - especially because she likes sitting up and looking around, now. She also tries her best to imitate us when we stick out our tongues or make silly noises with our mouths - it's so funny to see her trying so hard to copy us! She discovered her hands and tongue, and constantly has her fingers in her mouth or is sticking her tongue out at everyone. What a silly little monkey!
Also during her third month, Jason had Aubrey for a weekend so that I could go to Seattle and see my friend Brittiny for her birthday, as well as visit some other friends while there. I was gone for 48 hours or less, but I still missed her! I was surprised, actually, that I didn't cry or anything . . . maybe I was just too excited to go to Seattle! It was a quick trip, and of course everyone wanted to see the baby (I'm chopped liver now!), but it was nice to have a little time away and see people I hadn't seen in six months. While there, I got to see all the snow, too, which I guess is good because it doesn't seem like we're getting any in Tahoe any time soon . . .
Aubrey now loves her baths. Her favorite bedtime books are "Guess How Much I Love You," and "My Daddy and I." (please note: we own no book called "My Mommy and I," so it's not because she expresses a preference for one parent over the other ;)) I'm going to miss seeing all of the little things she does each day being back at work, but a little adult conversation never hurt anyone. Plus, Aubrey will be with her Nonna and Grandma while Jason and I are at work so we don't have to worry about anything! Aubrey is on the cusp of rolling from back to front - maybe by the time she's four months? She continues to roll from tummy to back, seemingly impressed each time. Her newest favorite toy is her glowworm, which plays music and lights up. What a sweet little girl we are blessed with! Here are some photos of her third month.
