This is Aubrey post-breakfast the other day. The photo was texted to me by my mom while I was at work and my coworkers were wondering why I was laughing so hard.

Excuses, excuses...
Just wanted to apologize for the lack of blogging lately. We bought a house on November 29, 2012, and the process leading up to that was quite intensive. That was promptly followed by moving and a very full holiday schedule, plus a super busy end of quarter schedule for mommy. I sneaked a few blog posts in on the mobile eblogger app, but my personal laptop is completely dead and out of commission so I haven't been able to even upload photos from the holidays, let alone blog about them. I hope to take my Mac into the Apple store and have a genius fix it up nice very soon, and then update the blog accordingly.

(Working) Mother of the Year
Picture this: it's quarter end and mommy is swamped. Daddy has been picking up Aubrey and putting her to bed each night before mommy even gets home. Mommy has to work and take a conference call from home on the weekend. Daddy, exhausted from the week, asks if mommy can watch Aubrey because daddy needs a nap. Mommy, who is busily typing emails and instant messages to colleagues, absentmindedly say yes. Shortly thereafter, mommy joins her conf call. Things are fine for several minutes, with Aubrey playing quietly in the kitchen and then the living room. Mommy doesn't realize that she begins to get more and more engrossed in the conference call as her opinion is requested etc. Suddenly, mommy realizes there has been a constant banging noise in the background for the past few minutes. Lo and behold, Aubrey had decide to splash and play in the cat's water! "bang! bang! bang!" = splash, splash, splash. She splashed water everywhere. Mommy has to decide between yelping "oh, no!" while on the conference call, or running to the table to mute the headset. She chooses the latter. Then she runs back, as more splashing continues, and says a firm "no," while attempting to remove the food and water tray, clean Aubrey up, and pay attention to the work colleague on the line. As this is all progressing, the unthinkable happens: she purposely shoves a piece of cat food in her mouth. "Arghhhh! No!!" I think, but cant really say anything until i go back on mute. I swiped the piece out of her mouth, but now I wonder how long I was distracted on my call and how many pieces of food she may have actually swallowed in that time. I'm still on the conference call so this worry has to be fleeting. Again. I finally remove the food and water from her reach, and focus on cleaning her face and hands, which are covered in cat water. I hand her some water to rinse her mouth out, which she reluctantly takes (the taste mist not have bothered her). Then I wipe everything down around where she was sitting. I finally wrap up my conference call and complete the cleaning. Meanwhile, daddy had a relaxing nap. Great job, mommy. What amazing work-life balance.
